On the evening of July 5, 2002 in Kansas City, Kansas a musical star was born!
Cleophus and Maloria Thomas were blessed with a baby boy they'd soon learn were their musical genius.
They named him Ian Cameron Thomas.
As the son of a United States Army Colonel, Ian was afforded the opportunity to live in multiple states and countries including Kansas, Colorado, Japan, Kentucky, Hawaii, and Maryland.
His friends knew him as the "Burberry Kid" for his love of classical fashion but his parents knew him as
"An Old Soul"
who loved playing 1889 Everett piano.
Ian enjoyed listening to an extensive collection of vinyl records that consisted of musical selections from blues, jazz, rap, and rock-n-roll artist.
Naturally, he had a smooth and debonair style.
We are grateful he blessed us all with his presence and gifts.
We are even more grateful to continue his legacy of supporting the arts and music through his scholarship foundation.
Thank you!
Ian's approach to music, was one that came naturally since he could hear a beat. Ian just had that gift of music and musical outpouring mixed with old soul and he showed out as they say. From piano to saxophone to guitar, you'd be sure to enter a musical delight of a show watching him perform.
Ian is survived by his father Cleophus Thomas Jr., mother Maloria Thomas, brother Alakan, sister Xavia, his dog Moose, and a host of family and friends that love him.
Dr. Henry A Wise High School Band honors his legacy.
